As search and rescue teams continue to search the rugged terrain around Joshua Tree National Park for missing 19-year-old pregnant woman Erin Corwin, investigators are not ruling out foul play as a possible cause of her disappearance. About a dozen rescue personnel continued to search Thursday for a Marine’s pregnant wife whose car was found in Twentynine Palms the day after she was reported missing.

Erin Corwin, 19, was last seen leaving her home in Twentynine Palms to Joshua Tree National Forest on Saturday around 7 a.m., according to the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department.

Her husband, a Marine, reported her missing on Sunday after she left their apartment on base to scout a location at Joshua Tree for a family outing but never returned.

Corwin’s 2013 blue Toyota Corolla was found in Twentynine Palms on Monday. She is three months pregnant, officials said.

Sheriff's officials called in a specialized group of investigators who typically handle homicides to work on the case.

"They felt it was necessary for those investigators to get involved early on," said Cindy Bachman of the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department. "They said there were some suspicious circumstances."

A sheriff’s helicopter, as well as about 12 rescue personnel, were searching Thursday in and around Joshua Tree National Park. Temperatures near the search area reached more than 100 degrees, according to the National Weather Service.

Detectives said there was no indication of foul play, but they are not ruling anything out.

"They found no evidence that leads them to believe that a crime has occurred, but she is still missing," Bachman said.

Corwin stands about five feet two inches tall, weighs about 120 pounds and has brown hair and blue eyes, officials said.

Anyone with information about Corwin’s whereabouts was asked to call 909-387-3589 or 909-387-8313. Callers wishing to remain anonymous can call 1-800-78-CRIME (27463) or go to www.wetip.com.
