Search Launched in Monterey Park After Gunman Shoots Police Cruiser

A search was launched after a police cruiser was hit by gunfire in Monterey Park Thursday night.

The alleged gunman opened fire just before 10 p.m. at Monterey Park Police officers who had stopped in a 7-Eleven parking lot at the northeast corner of Garvey Avenue and New Avenue.

The cruiser was struck from behind by gunfire. The officers heard two shots and felt the impact on the back of the patrol car, though they did not see the shooter. They sped out of the parking lot to escape the alleged attack.

A two-and-a-half hour search was later launched, but despite the participation of SWAT officers and the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, the shooter still remains at large.
