Deputies searched a South Los Angeles neighborhood early Tuesday for an individual who attacked a Los Angeles County Sheriff's deputy.

The search is near the intersection of 120th Street and Normandie Avenue (map). The subject was being taken into custody for a narcotics violation when he attacked the deputy and ran into a residential area.

The deputy did not require hospitalization. No evacuations were ordered.

Authorities said they do not believe the man is armed.
