A man was taken into custody by Long Beach police Wednesday in connection with a carjacking, pursuit and shooting involving officers.

The shooting took place about 2:45 p.m. in the 6300 block of Atlantic Avenue, where police said a driver suspected of stealing a car in Buena Park earlier in the day opened fire on officers through the windshield, officials said.

The car fled and police gave chase. The officers lost sight of the vehicle on the 91 Freeway, police said.

The car was later found in Bellflower. A man found near the vehicle was detained in connection with the crimes.
