Second Suspect Surrenders in Fatal Rancho Cucamonga Street-Racing Crash

The second driver sought in connection with a street-racing crash that left a father dead in Rancho Cucamonga turned himself into police Saturday, police said.

Jimmy Awolesi, a 22-year-old resident of Fontana, turned himself in at the West Valley Detention Center, the Rancho Cucamonga Police Department said.

Witnesses saw two black Ford Mustangs racing on Rochester Avenue from Arrow Route on Wednesday, police said.

Surveillance video given to NBC4 by H and A Transmission Inc. captured the two black cars speeding through the intersection in broad daylight.

Seconds later, a silver Nissan Altima slammed into one of the two Mustangs. The driver of the Nissan, identified as 46-year-old Julio Lopez of Pomona, died after the crash.

One of the drivers involved was a 16-year-old boy who remained at the scene and was arrested on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter, authorities said.

Lopez had two children, including a teenage girl and a 12-year-old son, and a wife of 22 years.
