Security Enhanced at ‘Halloween Carnaval' in WeHo After NYC Truck Attack

Patrols will be beefed up in light of what happened in New York

In light of an apparent act of terror in New York that killed at least eight people, sheriff's deputies will step up patrols for Tuesday's Halloween Carnaval in West Hollywood, but sheriff's officials said their plans for keeping revelers safe already took into account previous attacks.

"All of this stuff was taken into consideration," Sgt. Shawn Cohen said of planning for Tuesday night's West Hollywood Halloween Carnaval, which typically draws thousands of costumed celebrants and is billed as the world's largest Halloween party.

Still, patrols will be beefed up in light of what happened in New York, where a man in a rented van mowed down people on a Manhattan bike path.

The Los Angeles Police Department, meanwhile, was already planning to have a large presence in and around Dodger Stadium for tonight's World Series game, just as it did last week when the team played host to the Houston Astros in games one and two.

"We are closely monitoring the situation on the East Coast and communicating with (the New York Police Department) and our federal law enforcement partners, and at this point there is no nexus to Los Angeles," according to the LAPD.

"Tonight we have a heightened sense of awareness for the potential of terrorist acts, however, it is our priority to ensure the safety and security of anyone attending high-profile events in the city and had already planned on a highly visible LAPD presence at the game tonight."

As usual, officials reminded people to be aware of their surroundings and to report anything that looks suspicious or out of place, saying "the eyes and ears of our community can make the biggest impact" and "if you see something say something."
