Hit-and-Run Driver Who Killed Teenager on Skateboard Sentenced to Four Years in Prison

A hit-and-run driver convicted of fatally striking a 15-year-old boy on a skateboard in Echo Park last year was sentenced to four years in state prison.

Sang Won Jung, 27, pleaded no contest to one count of vehicular manslaughter, one count of hit-and-run resulting in death or injury and one count of false report of a crime Tuesday, according to a news release by the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office.

A judge ordered Jung to begin serving his sentence on April 15.

Jung was driving a minivan on June 12 when he struck Christian Donis, prosecutors said.

The teen was skateboarding with his 13-year-old cousin, Adam Donis, when police say they were hit in an unmarked crosswalk.

Jung fled the scene and both victims were taken to a nearby hospital.

Two days later, the 15-year-old was declared brain dead.

Jung showed up to a police station and told officers he lent the car to someone else, who was driving it during the crash, but police identified Jung as the driver, prosecutors said.
