Sex Offender Arrested for Alleged Car Burglary in Malibu

Israel Padilla was found with more than 100 electronics after a resident reported seeing him allegedly attempt to open cars.

A registered sex offender was arrested over the weekend after someone spotted him allegedly trying to break into cars around Malibu, officials said.

A resident from the area called police after seeing a man, later identified as 33-year-old Israel Padilla of Oxnard, allegedly attempting to open several cars parked along the Pacific Coast Highway and Mulholland Highway, the Los Angeles Sheriff's Department said in a statement.

Padilla had more than 100 cellphones, tablets, laptops car keys and other items that appeared to be from other car burglaries, deputies said. He was also in possession of several tools and gloves, which authorities said are commonly used in burglaries.

Along with being a registered sex offender from a 2004 arrest in Ventura County, Padilla is an active parolee for burglary, according to the LASD. He was released from a state prison in April.

Padilla is facing several felony charges from this incident and a parole violation hold, officials said. As of Sunday, deputies said he was being held in lieu of $50,000 bail.

It was not immediately clear whether Padilla had an attorney.
