Sexual Predator Targeting Elementary School Girls in El Monte, Police Say

Police say the man's car was dirty and unkempt, which could indicate he was living in it

Police released a composite sketch Friday of a man they are calling a sexual predator who is targeting elementary school girls in El Monte.

Two girls reported being approached by a man in separate incidents Wednesday as they were walking to and from school, the El Monte Police Department said.

One of the girls said she was walking home from Gidley Elementary about 3 p.m. when a man drove alongside her in the area of Arden Drive and Valley Boulevard and sexually propositioned her. As she continued walking, the man got out and approached her. She ran away, and the man got back inside the car and drove off.

Another girl reported having a similar experience earlier in the day across the street from Parkview Elementary. She said she was on Elliott Avenue about 7 a.m. when a man offered her a ride. She refused and he took off, but he drove back a few minutes later and offered her a ride once again. She ran to campus and told school staff, and the man drove away.

He was described as a 25- to 29-year-old Hispanic man, about 5 feet 7 inches tall with a medium build. He had black hair, dark eyes and a light complexion.

The man's car, a tan late model four-door Toyota or Honda with tinted windows, was "dirty" and unkempt, which could mean he may be living in it, police said. The car had stickers on the rear windshield.
