A man with a skateboard was shot and killed during a confrontation with officers in the Mid-Wilshire area of Los Angeles on Thursday morning, officials said.
The shooting happened in a residential area near Ninth Street and Sycamore Avenue before 9 a.m., LAPD Officer Jack Richter said.
The LA County Coroner's Office said the man died on Thursday evening, but the LAPD had not confirmed his death as of Friday morning.
Officers received a call about a man breaking windows with a skateboard around 8:40 a.m. near 8th Street and La Brea Avenue. The officers responded and saw a man matching a description given to dispatchers.
The man fled on a skateboard. Officers caught up to the man in the 800 block of Sycamore Avenue after he either jumped off or fell from his skateboard, according to a news release.
The incident became violent after police say the man refused to comply with the officers.
Officers used a Taser on him after using "a variety of physical force," to subdue him, but to no avail. Police said the man got a hold of the Taser and used it on an officer, hurting an officer in the leg.
The injured officer then alerted his partner, who drew his gun and shot the man, police said.
Police said the man was struck by a bullet at least once, but it's not known how many shots the officer fired. A witness said he thought he saw officers shoot a man in the back, but police did not confirm that information.
Aerial video showed a pool of blood on the ground in front of what appeared to be a residential building as police tape blocked off streets.

Both officers were treated at a clinic and released, according to the news release.
