Sinkhole Scare Prompts Evacuation of OC Condos

A sinkhole scare forced dozens of residents of a Laguna Hills condominium complex to evacuate their homes Saturday afternoon, after a broken water main caused a muddy flood and fears of a sinkhole or mudslide.

On Saturday night, residents were allowed back into their homes after soil experts determined the hillside was stable.

The water main break occurred about 1 p.m. on Clover Hill Lane, just east of the 73 Freeway near Alicia Parkway. Utility crews were able to shut down the water main, but they weren't sure what caused the break.

Resident George Navarro said muddy water reached up past his ankles earlier in the day.
