In the first attack, the assailant walked up to a 73-year-old man and, without any provocation, struck him with a hammer-type weapon, according to the Los Angeles Sheriff's Department.

The man kicked the victim who and then fled southbound on Bonnie Beach Place.

A few hours later, the attacker struck a woman with the same type of weapon several times on the head before fleeing. The woman fell to the ground and lost consciousness.

The suspect is described as a male in his mid-40s, approximately 240 pounds, 6 feet tall, wearing a straw hat and blue wind breaker-type jacket.
