Sketch Released in Irvine Apartment Robbery

The Irvine Police Department is searching for a man who robbed a 62-year-old woman at gunpoint Saturday inside her Orange County apartment.

Shortly after 9:30 a.m., the man barged his way inside the family's Irvine apartment in the 600 block of Hayes Street. Then the suspect walked inside, pointing a gun at the family.

"I saw the gun in his hand," a family member said. "It was out. I told him don't do anything just wait."

The woman says her mother takes a daily walk to the park and had returned Saturday morning, not realizing she was being followed.

She said right away the suspect made it clear what he wanted.

"He looked at me and said 'I want gold.' He saw the necklace I was wearing .. he just snatched it so it broke."

The woman, who asked not to be identified, was more concerned about her 18-month-old daughter who was also in the room. Her father was home too, but she told him not to confront the man.

Police released a sketch based on what she remembers about the suspect on Sunday.

He is described as black, in his late 20s with short black hair and a medium build. He was wearing a black and red striped sweatshirt and black pants.

The robbery suspect told the woman not to call police or he'd come back.

The man walked around the apartment, demanding the gold bracelets the woman wore. She gave him the gold jewelry about $300 in cash.
