Two cyclists were shot Saturday in Los Angeles' Koreatown by a passenger in a white SUV, police said.
Police on Sunday identified a bicyclist who was run down by a sports utility vehicle in Koreatown and then shot by one of the passengers as 19-year-old Shaoyan Almazan.
Almazan and a friend were riding their bikes near San Moreno Avenue and New Hampshire Street in Los Angeles on Saturday, when a white SUV knocked him down, police said. A gunman then got out of the vehicle and shot Almazan three times, killing him, Los Angeles police said in a press release.
The second cyclist tried to ride away, but was shot in the hand, the press release said.
Sgt. Rudy Lopez said the sport-utility vehicle with three suspects was chasing the cyclists when some kind of altercation occured.
"The suspects reentered that SUV and they fled the area," Lopez said. "We're looking for them right now, but we don't have many leads to go on at this time."
Both victims were Latino, according to LAPD.
It was unclear if the incident was gang-related.
The SUV was last seen driving south on Vermont Avenue toward Olympic Boulevard.
The second cyclist is in a local hospital in stable condition, LAPD officials said.
