Wildfire Burns Hundreds of Acres, Forces Evacuations Near Ojai

Evacuations were ordered for several nearby campsites

A wildfire burned at least 200 acres in the Los Padres National Forest and forced evacuations just north of Ojai Sunday night, according to the Ventura County Fire Department.

The so-called Chorro Fire started just after 1 p.m. in the area of Highway 33 and the Chorro Grande Trail, the fire department said.

Evacuations were ordered for the Reyes Peak Campground and the Pine Mountain Campground, according to the fire department.

Highway 33 was closed at Lockwood Valley Road on the north end of the fire and at the Wheeler Gorge Visitor Center on the south end.

More than 300 firefighters and 11 air tankers were brought in to extinguish the fire.
