So That's Why Traffic Wasn't Moving

Two crashes -- one in the Sepulveda Pass, another in Burbank -- caused major backups Tuesday morning.

Both happened before the height of the morning rush, but still caused problems for early morning commuters.

Just before 6 a.m., a big rig crashed and caught fire on the northbound 5 Freeway in Burbank. The truck smashed through a barrier and into the southbound lanes near Alameda Avenue.

Other vehicles were tangled up in the mess. Minor injuries were reported.

The crash blocked traffic in both directions as crews cleared the debris. The SigAlert was expected to remain in effect until about noon.

About 20 minutes earlier, a motorcyle and van crashed on the southbound 405 Freeway in the Sepulveda Pass. The crash blocked traffic just north of Getty Center Drive for about an hour.
