Social Media Reaction to #SanGabrielComplex Wildfire

The San Gabriel Complex fire has scorched 4,900 acres in the mountains of northeast Los Angeles. As of Wednesday morning, fire officials said the fire was at 10 percent containment.

Residents living in the foothills above Duarte and Azusa had been evacuated, with residents of about 530 homes in Duarte were being allowed to likely come back. At a press conference on Wednesday morning, fire officials said small animals could return with their owners to homes, but larger animals such as horses could not come back yet.

Social media users tagged photos #FishFire and #ReservoirFire while two separate wildfires burned four miles apart in the mountains above the San Gabriel Valley on Monday. The fires then combined and started to become referenced as the #SanGabrielComplex by fire officials on Tuesday morning.

Residents in Monrovia, Azusa and Duarte captured footage and images of billowing smoke and blazing flames as they watched the rugged terrain around them burn.

Users uploaded photos from as far away as West Los Angeles, where the smoke could be seen swirling from the San Gabriel Mountains.
