Soldier From Glendale Killed in Rollover Crash at Iraq Airbase

An Army soldier from Glendale was killed in a crash at an air base in Iraq, the U.S. Department of Defense announced Friday.

Sgt. Joseph Stifter, 30, died from injuries he suffered when his armored vehicle was involved in a rollover crash Thursday at Al Asad Airbase in the Al Anbar Province.

The crash was under investigation, according to the Department of Defense.

Stifter was assigned to the 1st Infantry Division in Fort Riley, Kansas.

"Sgt. Stifter bravely answered the call to serve our country, and we will forever be indebted to him for his service and sacrifice on our behalf," said U.S. Sen. Jerry Moran in a news release, according to the Topeka Capital-Journal.

Stifter is survived by his wife and daughter.
