Son Mourns Loss of Beloved Father Who Died in Las Vegas Massacre

A family from Orange County spent the weekend in Las Vegas, staying at the Mandalay Bay hotel.

But on Sunday, they said their goodbyes when one of them had to head home early, never imagining that would be a final goodbye.

Nick Arellano remembers the last words he had with his father. He was also at the Las Vegas concert with his family, but left Sunday morning to get home in time for his first day of school at UCLA. Both father and son agreed it was what he needed to do.

Arellano says his dad was three things -- amazing, stunning and too good for this world.

The 49-year-old La Palma father even became an ordained minister just so he could perform his son's wedding in July.

His eldest son is an engineer in the Air Force who remembers getting a panicked phone from his newlywed wife.

Arellano had stayed at the concert with his parents. A friend ran for help after 49-year-old Brian Fraser was shot at the venue. No one else in their group was hit by gunfire.

"You know they did their job and told him he's not going to make it," Arellano said. "They did their job. He went quickly and didn't suffer.

"He was a guy who took care of everyone he came in contact with."
