Son Suspected of Shooting Family in Mission Video Apparent Murder-Suicide

Authorities have identified a family of four found dead inside a Mission Viejo home Tuesday in what investigators said appeared to be a murder-suicide begun by a 21-year-old son.

Michael Harrison Davis Sheer is suspected of fatally shooting his father Mark Harrison Sheer, 55, mother Lydia Ann Sheer, 54, and younger sister Amy Joanne Sheer, 15, with a shotgun before turning the gun on himself on Memorial Day, according to the Orange County Sheriff’s Department.

Deputies patrolled the area early Monday after receiving reports of possible gunshots but found nothing.

The family was discovered a day later by a relative who couldn’t get ahold of the family inside the home in the 25600 block of Pacific Hills Drive around 9 a.m., officials said.

According to an NBC4 report, the person who found the family was Mark Sheer's mother who became concerned after he didn't answer his phone.

Shocked neighbors described them as the perfect family, a mother who homeschooled her children and a father who was involved in his church.

Michael Sheer was a student at Saddleback College in 2009, but did not graduate.

Authorities said a motive for the apparent murder-suicide has yet to be determined.

NBC4's Vikki Vargas and Samia Khan contributed to this report.
