Two Sought After Residents Scuffle With Gunmen in Backyard

One of the gunmen and a resident continued to fight after falling into the South Gate home's pool

Two men are sought after residents encountered three gunmen Monday morning in the backyard of a home south of downtown Los Angeles.

One of the individuals found in the South Gate backyard was hospitalized in stable condition after an officer-involved shooting outside a nearby home.  Authorities went door-to-door, warning residents that they are searching for two others involved in the backyard confrontation with four adult residents.

It was not immediately clear why the men were on the property.

People inside the home told police they heard a noise in the backyard at about 11:30 p.m. They fought with the men, two of whom scaled a wall and ran away, police said.

A third man fell into the backyard swimming pool with one of the home's residents and continued the scuffle, police said. That gunman also climbed a wall and fled, but was shot in a confrontation with South Gate police.

He was later found hiding under a vehicle parked on Brookdale Road.

Police tape blocked off streets near Katella to Brookdale roads and Wright to Adella roads. Two handguns were recovered in the search area, authorities said.

A detailed description of the wanted men was not immediately available.

Authorities were attempting to obtain a search warrant Monday to search the property where the residents encountered the gunmen.

"The victims are cooperating, they're talking to us," said Lt. John Corina, of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department. "It's just that they didn't want to give us consent to search their home or their garage."
