Residents “Shelter in Place” During Search After Pursuit Ends in Gunfire

A suspect pointed a gun at officers, according to police.

Police searched for armed subjects in South Los Angeles early Wednesday after a pursuit ended in gunfire, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

At 1:45 a.m., officers pursued two people near Western Avenue and 54th Street in South LA. Two occupants ran from the vehicle and one pointed a gun at officers, according to police.

Shots were fired, but no injuries were reported.

The subjects were last seen between houses on 57th Street between St. Andrews Place and South Western Avenue.

"It's very fluid, right now," Sgt Frank Preciado, of the Los Angeles Police Department, said early Wednesday. "We want residents to shelter in place."

The manhunt was later called off. No arrests were reported late Wednesday afternoon.

The pursuit came hours after an officer-involved shooting was reported less than a block away. One person was shot and no officers were injured near 55th Street and Budlong Avenue just after 10 p.m.

The wounded subject was hospitalized in stable condition.
