The price of a gallon of gas dropped Monday for the 26th consecutive day, according to the Automobile Club of Southern California.

The average price of a gallon of regular was $4.117 in California, down a penny from Sunday’s price of $4.127, and  10.4 cents over the same day last week.

That’s still considerably higher than the $3.950 charged for a gallon of regular a year earlier, the Auto Club said.

In Los Angeles County, a gallon of regular was close to the statewide average, at $4.118 on Monday.

That’s down from Sunday’s price of $4.128, and last week’s price of $4.230.

Prices are still near historic highs, however, and consumers continue to cut back.
