Spend Presidents Day Weekend on the Big Bear Slopes

Several snow-tastic doings are coming up for the three-day weekend.

LIKE A FEW FESTIVE TO-DOS... to complement your time on the slopes? Such poles-down activities aren't always easy to find, for sometimes a ski destination is about just that: the skiing and the riding and the snow-based enjoyment. But a longer weekend can deliver some extras in the have-a-good-time department, and you don't even need to don your goggles or gloves to enjoy them. Look to Big Bear Mountain Resort, which has a few things up its well-insulated, fleece-warm sleeves over the long Presidents Day Weekend. Temperatures have been dropping, making it primo be-outside weather for skiers, but if you want to mix in some movie watching, and other pursuits, those are on mid-February schedule, too, for Bear Mountain and Snow Summit.

WHAT'S ON THE ROSTER? "Moana" will screen at the resort's Movies in the Meadow series, which'll show at 5:45 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 17. It's free, but get there on the earlyish side, given the first-come nature of the showing. Night sessions'll flow, too, at Snow Summit, and that's "all weekend long," so if a starry schuss is just what you're craving, be there from 3 to 8:30 in the evening. You can cheer on the Big Bear Mountain Resort Race Team in the Goldsmith Races 3 & 4 on Sunday, Feb. 18, or spend some time burnishing your skillz with either private or group lessons. And the "biggest retail sale of the year" is afoot at Big Bear Sports, should you be keen to stock up for next season. January, overall, seemed to stay sunnier and warmer, but February is proving frostier, temperature-wise, at least thus far.

GET YOUR WINTER ON, while it is still winter, over the long holiday weekend, and savor a few slope-adjacent to-dos, at Big Bear.
