Spirit Airlines Plane Forced to Land at LAX After Striking a Bird

No injuries were reported.

A commercial jet that had departed from the Los Angeles International Airport was forced to circle the Los Angeles area for more than an hour and return to the runway after the plane struck at least one bird Wednesday night, LAX officials said.

The Fort Lauderdale-bound Spirit Airlines Flight 310 departed from LAX at 9 p.m. The pilot reported a bird strike and as a result, circled the LA area for about an hour and a half before landing safely at the airport, Spirit Airlines spokesperson Paul Berry said.

Passengers got off the plane and took another flight out at 1:51 a.m. Thursday morning and were expected to land in Fort Lauderdale at 9:36 a.m. local time.

No injuries were reported.

The plane was being inspected at LAX.
