SpongeBob Squarepants Brawl Caught on Video

Video posted online shows a violent confrontation between a man dressed as SpongeBob and two women along Hollywood Boulevard.

It's been a tough week for SpongeBob.

First, a new study from the psychology department at the University of Virginia claimed that fast-paced shows, such as "SpongeBob Squarepants," can cause learning and attention problems with children.

Then, things got worse.

On Thursday, TMZ posted video of a violent confrontation between a man dressed as SpongeBob and two women along Hollywood Boulevard.

In the video, SpongeBob starts off with his goofy antics, clearly annoying the women. Things start to escalate. Despite laughter and smiles, the women begin to punch the character.

One of the women repeatedly tells the man to "take off the costume."

The video ends with police at the scene, questioning the trio. Police described the incident to the Los Angeles Times as simply a "brief incident with two females."

The relationship between Hollywood Boulevard characters and tourists has been rocky at times. During a crackdown last year, police arrested at least 20 characters, including Batman, Yoda and Catwoman.

Although characters can legally accept tips, they are not allowed to solicit them. Some characters have been accused of aggressively asking for money, blocking sidewalks and using drugs.
