Man Found Dead in Home After Overnight Standoff

Evacuations are in effect for nearby residences after shots were heard coming from a West Covina home

A man was found dead inside a house Thursday morning after an overnight standoff that began with several reports of shots fired at the residence east of downtown Los Angeles.

Police responded early Thursday to a home in the 1900 block of East Cortez Street in West Covina. Officers heard more gunfire coming from the residence when they arrived, police said

A containment area was established in the neighborhood and nearby residences were evacuated, forced out of their homes for hours overnight. Aerial video showed at least two armored police vehicles in the neighborhood about 20 miles east of downtown Los Angeles.

Officers eventually entered the home and found a deceased man inside. Information regarding the man's identity was not immediately available.

Details regarding a cause of death were not immediately available. No shots were fired by law enforcement officers, police said.
