Team won't know opponent until tomorrow's game between Nebraska and Wisconsin

The Stanford Cardinal won the Pac-12 Championship Friday night down on the farm.

The win gives the team a spot in the 2013 Rose Bowl in Pasadena on New Year's Day.

The final score 27-24.

The MVP honors went to quarterback Kevin Hogan.

Hogan threw 153 total yards and one TD, adding a rushing TD of his own in Stanford's win.

Stepfan Taylor had 24 carries for 76 yards and one touchdown.

It's the team's first trip to the Rose Bowl since 2000.

It comes seven months after the team lost its star quarterback Andrew Luck to the pros.

The Luck loss was proceeded by the departures of star running back Toby Gerhart and then-Stanford coach Jim Harbaugh. Each personnel loss had doubters thinking the team's winning ways were over.

But each season, the Cardinal keep winning.

The Mercury News points out that a common thread during Stanford's string of  great seasons is current head coach David Shaw. Shaw was an assistant under Harbaugh, but took the helm in 2011.
