Storage unit owners may want to double check to make sure they're not victims of theft.

According to the Garden Grove and Huntington Beach Police departments, thieves rent a storage unit and then fill it with property they steal from other units.

The thieves replace the padlock on the victim's storage unit, so the storage rental company has no idea that the crime has occurred, according to police.

If you haven't visited your storage unit in the last month, it's recommended you do so, say authorities.

Police have recovered truckloads of suspected stolen property, much of which has already been returned to the victims. The remaining property includes a large comic book collection, sports memorabilia, cooking supplies, antique items and medical equipment.

If your property has been stolen from a storage unit in the Los Angeles/Orange County area within the last year, contact the Garden Grove Police Department at 714-741-5815.
