Stretch of 101 Freeway Between Echo Park and Hollywood to Close

The freeway closures will start Sunday, Aug. 28. and last until the first week of September.

Drivers using the 101 Freeway between Echo Park and Hollywood overnight next week should expect delays due to rolling construction closures.

The California Department of Transportation will close all lane portions of the northbound 101 Freeway from Glendale Boulevard to Cahuenga Boulevard from Sunday, Aug. 28, to Wednesday, Aug. 31., midnight to 5 a.m.

The closures will start during the morning of each day and end on the same morning.

This is not a full freeway closure. The 101 will be closed in small sections to install loop detectors in the pavement, officials said.

"There are no emojis to express how this is SO not a major closure," Caltrans wrote

These loop detectors track travel-time information and speeds to reflect real-time traffic conditions.

The installation is one of the last phases of a $19.26-million project to repave the 101 Freeway from downtown Los Angeles to Hollywood.
