Strip Clubs, Drinking and Driving — Just Another DWP Workday?

You have to love undercover investigations. Unless you're a Department of Water and Power worker caught at a strip club or drinking and driving while on the job.

CBS2 reporter David Goldstein caught several DWP linemen on camera as they allegedly go to strip clubs during work hours, drink beer while driving city vehicles, and lounge around taking extended breaks in the middle of the afternoon.

In one scene, workers are seen entering the Alameda Strip club where they stay for nearly two hours. An unidentified former DWP employee told CBS2 drinking and lap dances while on duty were a "tradition."

Another scene purportedly shows DWP workers purchasing beer at a liquor store, concealing it in white paper, then drinking it while driving a city utility truck.

DWP has been making headlines recently saying it needs to raise rates by 4.8% and has been holding back millions from the city until the hike is approved.

Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa who viewed the tape and DWP officials told CBS2 they are investigating and will hold those accountable once the facts are established.

DWP has a zero tolerance drug and alcohol policy. Anyone caught could be fired.
