Students Arrested in Cheating Scandal

Three teens were accused of changing grades and stealing tests.

Three students were arrested from Palos Verdes High School for hacking into teachers computers and changing their grades. They are also suspected of breaking into classrooms and stealing hard copies of tests, which they would then sell the answers to.

These students allegedly broke into the janitor’s room and stole a copy master key. From there, they broke into four classrooms and attached a technical device called a “key stroke tracker” on the computers.

With that, the students were able to access the teacher’s username and password, and therefore change grades.

Police said the teens were Advanced Placement students – top notch kids taking college-level classes. They were able to charge fellow students up to $50 a test and one student $300 to change his grade online.

Palos Verdes High students understand why their classmates would do this. One student commented, “It’s tough you know. You need to make good grades to go to college.”

The students’ scheme was caught wind of when one of the hackers turned themselves into school administrators.
