Students Warned After Rape Near Loyola Campus

School officials urged students to be aware of their surroundings after reported rape at off-campus party

Students at Loyola Marymount University are being warned to be on alert as police investigate a rape that allegedly took place at an off-campus party last weekend.

Campus public safety officers and LAPD detectives began investigating after the victim told police the rape occurred in the early morning hours of Nov. 1 at a party in the 8700 block of Yorktown Avenue.

A suspect has not been identified, according to an alert sent by the school.

In the alert to students, school administrators urged students to be careful and aware of their surroundings.

The school offered several tips:

  • If possible do not walk alone at night.
  • Scan parking lots, sidewalks and streets for suspicious persons and activity.
  • Look confident and purposeful when you walk.
  • Do not flash your personal belongings such as cell phones and laptops.
