Ex-Special Education Teacher Ordered to Stand Trial in Student Sex Case

One accuser claims she offered him sex as a "prize" for playing well in a baseball game.

A former special education teacher accused of having sex with five underage boys was ordered Tuesday to stand trial in the case, according to the Riverside County District Attorney.

Summer Michelle Hansen, 31, was charged in August 2013 with 16 felony counts including unlawful sexual intercourse with a minor, unlawful oral copulation with a minor and sending harmful matter to a minor, according to the DA’s office. If convicted as charged, she faces up to 13 years in state prison.

Last September, Hansen pleaded not guilty, and her husband proclaimed her innocence exclusively to NBC4.

Prosecutors said Hansen engaged in sexual intercourse and oral sex with the boys in her classroom, in a utility room at the school, in car while parked near a boy’s home and at another alleged victim’s home.

None of the alleged victims were Hansen’s students, but all did attend the school where she taught and were under the age of 18 when the alleged crimes occurred, the DA said.

Hansen taught special education at Centennial High School in Corona. She is on unpaid leave and her teaching credentials have been suspended, according to the Corona-Norco Unified School District.

The former educator appeared in court Tuesday and waived her right to a preliminary hearing. She is scheduled to appear in court again on March 25 for an information arraignment and her trial could begin as soon as late June.
