Suspect Arrested in Valentine's Day Shooting

A 21-year-old man was arrested in connection with the Valentine's Day shooting of a 16-year-old boy, police said.

Marcos Contreras, of Covina, was being held in jail in connection with a Feb. 14 shooting in the 500 block of Rimsdale Avenue. The shooting victim suffered a gunshot wound to his left arm.

Initially, police said the victim was uncooperative and there was no evidence of a crime that occurred in the area, but detectives later learned the identity of the suspect.

He was arrested Tuesday night when detectives saw him leaving a mobile home in the 19000 block of East Arrow Highway, nearly three miles away from where the shooting happened, authorities said in a news release.

He faces a charge of assault with a firearm. Police said they recovered a handgun they believe was used in the crime.
