Attacked Pastor Returns Home to Recover; Suspect Identified

Henry Dominguez Chacon, 53, of Pacoima, was named as the suspected attacker by police.

A San Fernando pastor returned home from the hospital Friday night after a brutal attack by a man, who has now been identified by authorities, left him with a broken hip that required surgery.

Rudy Trujillo of the Faith Center in San Fernando was accompanied by his family as he left the hospital in a wheelchair. The pastor, well-known in his community, is recovering well from the attack.

Trujillo was attacked about 11 a.m. Wednesday in the 700 block of North Maclay Avenue, near his church, according to the San Fernando Police Department.

Witnesses said a former parishioner attacked his father, striking him in the head and knocking him to the ground and resulting in a broken hip.

Police on Friday released the name and image of 53-year-old Henry Dominguez Chacon of Pacoima.

Chacon was identified through witness interviews and video taken of the attack, said San Fernando police Lt. Nichole Hanchett.

"We are currently in the process of filing criminal charges with the District Attorney's office," Hanchett said.

Trujillo's family is still wondering the motive behind the attack. His son, Josh, said the only link Chacon had with his father was that he was once a member of the church.

His family wants Chacon to turn himself in. They're also willing to forgive him.

"This is where the rubber really meets the road, if we actually believe the stuff that you teach or not," Josh said. "You only get to put this in practice when stuff like this happens."

Chacon is Hispanic, 5 feet 11 inches tall, weighs about 210 pounds and has black hair and brown eyes.

Police want him to contact them so he can provide a statement.

Anyone with information regarding his whereabouts was urged to call the San Fernando police Detective Division at 818-898-1261.
