Suspected Home Intruder Shot, Killed in San Pedro

An investigation is underway after a suspected intruder was shot and killed Friday morning by a homeowner during a home-invasion robbery in San Pedro, police said.

The break-in and shooting was reported around 3 a.m. in the 200 block of West 11th Street, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

Police said the homeowner confronted the intruder in the kitchen shot him intruder in the head.

The homeowner told police he thought he had locked all the doors and windows, but police said there were no obvious signs of forced entry.

LAPD's Habor Division detectives questioned the homeowner and his two roomates, who were all inside the house during the time of the shooting. They were released Friday afternoon.

Police believe the homeowner may have recognized the intruder after he shot him, although it's not immediately clear how he may have known the man.

"When it was done, he recognized the intruder," said Lt. Susan Willis.

The intruder was taken to a hospital in critical condition were he died, police said.
