Eastbound 210 in Sunland Closed After Possible Hand Grenade Found

Eastbound lanes of the 210 Freeway were closed for several hours Tuesday morning as the LAPD bomb squad investigated what appeared to be a hand grenade found on the shoulder near Sunland Boulevard, police said.

The object was safely disabled about 10:20 a.m.

"Bomb squad utilized a water canyon to render safe. Unk if it was a working grenade; however, it appeared to have blasting cap inside," LAPD's Foothill Division tweeted.

The freeway on and off ramps were blocked at Sunland Boulevard and the eastbound lanes of the freeway were closed, causing traffic to snarl.

The item was reported by a crew working on the ramp at 8:01 a.m., Officer Lillian Preciado of LAPD’s Media Relations Section said.

Lanes were reopened by 11:30 a.m.
