Woman Sentenced in ‘Sweetheart Scam' After Stealing $200,000 From 78-Year-Old

A Victorville woman convicted of stealing more than $200,000 from a Woodland Hills man in a sweetheart scam was sentenced Thursday to eight years in state prison.

Shirley Chrissy Urick, 34, was found guilty July 25 of three counts of theft from an elder, with jurors finding true two allegations of excessive loss.

Urick met the 78-year-old man in a grocery store parking lot in July 2013 and befriended him, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office.

The man loaned tens of thousands of dollars to Urick -- who was using the fake name "Gina Lee" -- and paid for some of her expenses after she told him a series of lies and said she would pay him back, according to the District Attorney's Office.
