Swimmer Rescued in Venice Beach Dies at Hospital

A swimmer who was rescued from the ocean off Venice Beach later died at a hospital, according to the Los Angeles County Coroner.

Lifeguards pulled the 28-year-old man to shore during a water rescue around 6:20 p.m., according to the Los Angeles City Fire Department. The man entered the water with two friends who safely returned to the beach.

Lifeguards and firefighters gave the victim advanced life support and transported him to a hospital where he died.

Strong rip currents are expected through the weekend off Southern California beaches. Authorities advised swimmers to stay near lifeguard stations.
