Authorities following the driver of a possibly stolen tax cab on freeways and streets Thursday morning in Los Angeles took the subject into custody at a transit station.

Sheriff's deputies were initially in pursuit of the vehicle but entered a "tracking mode" as the driver traveled at low speeds and obeying traffic signals in the Long Beach area. The driver surrendered outside the Artesia Transit Station at about 7 a.m.

A preliminary investigation indicated the cab was stolen after the driver picked up a passenger in Glendora. The passenger paid the fare and apparently stole the vehicle after the driver got out of the car, according to the sheriff's department's initial investigation.
