A teenager died after being found on the street suffering from a gunshot wound in South Los Angeles on Monday night.
The 18-year-old, who was named as Alfonso Maldonado by a woman who said she is his mother, was discovered by a Transit Service Bureau Deputy on the 9000 block of Holmes Avenue at 10:30 p.m., and was pronounced dead after being transported to a local hospital, Lt. Steve Jauch of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said.
It is currently unknown whether he was shot where he was found or elsewhere, and detectives are appealing for witnesses to come forward.
A woman named Delores Perez, who said she was Madonado's mother, said he may have been in the area visiting a girlfriend, who he had been allegedly arguing with. Perez also said he had been shot with an automatic weapon.
Investigators are aware of the victim’s identity, but have yet to confirm it.
Resident Usbaldo Vela said he was woken up on Tuesday morning by the sound of gunfire.
"I was sleeping, I woke up to some gunshots, about five of them," Velas said.

When he looked outside he saw a "bunch of cops" already there.
"They were pretty fast, but the time I came out they were already there. There was one, and then all the rest came," Vela said.
