Teen Ordered to Trial in Shooting Death of Gay Classmate

A 15-year-old boy has been ordered to trial for the hate-crime shooting death of a gay student inside an Oxnard junior high school classroom.

A Ventura County judge ruled at the end of Brandon McInerney's preliminary hearing that there was enough evidence for trial in the death of 14-year-old Larry King in February 2008. McInerney is being tried as an adult for first-degree murder and a hate crime.

Prosecutors said McInerney shot King twice in the head in February 2008. The shooting occurred in a computer lab at E.O. Green Junior High School.

The judge cited evidence that McInerney told other students that he was going to kill King.

"You better say goodbye to him because you won't see him again," McInerney said, according to investigators who interviewed students.
