Teen Shot, Killed After Church Parking Lot Fight in Riverside

An 18-year-old was shot and killed during a fight in a church parking lot Sunday in Riverside, authorities said.

Family members identified the teen as Luis Quintanar. His mother said he turned 18 just 10 days prior.

The shooting was reported about 1:10 a.m. in the parking lot of Central Community Church at 5623 Arlington Ave., according to the Riverside Police Department.

Officers found Quintanar suffering from gunshot wounds when they arrived on scene. He was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead, according to the RPD.

Detectives concluded that he was walking with his friends when they were confronted by a lone gunman. The victim and shooter were involved in a fight that ended with the shooter pulling out a handgun and shooting the teen several times before fleeing the scene, according to police.

"He just wanted to do so much to make mom and dad proud," the victim's sister Karina Quintanar said.

Quintanar said her younger brother was anxious to graduate high school and get a job to support his family.

The coroner's office had not yet confirmed the teen's identity.

The family set up a GoFundMe to help with funeral expenses. A candlelight vigil is planned for Monday evening.
