Teen May Have Shot Himself

LOS ANGELES -- A 15-year-old boy, who was shot and wounded Monday near Wilson High School in the El Sereno area of Los Angeles, may have shot himself.

The shooting was reported about 10:40 a.m. in the 4500 block of Multnomah Street, and the teen, wounded in the abdomen, sought help on campus, said Los Angeles police Officer Sam Park of the Media Relations office.

The school was locked down as a precaution, Park said. The lockdown was lifted around noon, according to the Los Angeles Unified School District.

Paramedics took the victim to a hospital in unknown condition, the fire department reported.

Principal Robert Martinez said the student may have shot himself with a gun he brought onto the campus.

"He was shot through a fence? It just didn't make sense. No casings were found anywhere, and then the K-9, when they were called in, actually found the gun hidden in some bushes," Martinez said.

Martinez said the student may have been motivated to injure himself because he knows he could face expulsion for bringing a gun on campus.
