A thief has been pilfering wallets from purses left unattended in shopping carts in the Torrance area, and police on Thursday released photos of the woman suspected of targeting other women as they peruse store aisles.

With blonde hair and a light complexion, the woman is accused of lifting wallets from purses inside the "baby seat" area of shopping carts at Vons, Trader Joe's and Whole Foods stores in Torrance.

Police said the woman uses the victims’ credit cards to make more purchases at stores including Target and Total Wine and More, and to transact up to $4,000 cash advances at banks.

Authorities released four photos (below) of the woman Thursday night with a warning to shoppers to be alert.

Anyone with information in the case is asked to call the Torrance Police Department at 310-328-3456.
