This Week: Sizzling Summer Nights at The Autry

Dance outdoors, near the Griffith Park museum, and celebrate summertime.

Sizzling Summer Nights: Recent weather has truly put the "sizzling" part of this seasonal favorite to the test, though temperatures will be settling down, just a pinch, as we dance our way into August. And if you'd like to start August on an auspicious note, make for The Autry Museum of the American West, where dancing under the sky to live music, noshing on tacos, sipping nice beverages, and savoring a relaxing, music-filled scene is a Thursday-summer-night tradition. Yari Moré Latin Band'll feature Cumbia, Merengue, and lots more on Aug. 1; ticket info may be found here.

Tacotopia's New Doggie Happy Hour: Swing by most any colorful pop-up, the kind of immersive space with several rooms themed to a single idea, and you'll find that no Fidos are permitted. But the taco-loving location in Santa Monica is changing that up, every Monday afternoon through Labor Day 2019. So nice? Your pup is free (you've still got to snag that ticket). Also nice? You and your canine can clown around a number of rooms that are fun to guac, er, walk through. There are also Barkaritas for your sweetie and margaritas, as well as mock margies, for you to purchase. The hours? It's all woofing from 3 to 7:30, making this the happiest and houndiest of taco-fun hours.

"The Great Gatsby" at The Grove: Hear that a film is playing at The Grove near mid-city, and you're likely to picture it inside the capacious Pacific Theatres cinema. But there's a pop-up, enjoy-your-car drive-in happening this summer at the alfresco shopping center, with a twist. That twist? Well, yes, it is happening on the rooftop of The Grove's parking garage — the name of the series is Level 8 Drive-In at The Grove (a reference to the parking garage level, yes) — but there'll be a car from the film in attendance. It's a 1932 Duesenberg, red, stylish, and made for oohing/aahing. Want to see it, and the movie? Be there on the final evening of July. Arriving by public transportation or a service? There's a place to sit, hurrah.

Hello Kitty Cafe Truck: Spy a sweet and pink ride, one with a certain Sanrio character on the side, and you may drop everything to join the queue. After all, the famous Hello Kitty Cafe Truck doesn't come around every day. But there is something a bit special, even magical, happening at the Citadel Outlets beginning on July 29: The truck is stopping by for a rare, multi-day visit. That means you can find your photo-worthy Hello Kitty treats, your bow-covered merchandise, and more if you visit the 5-adjacent destination from July 29 through Aug. 4 (yep, a Sunday). The hours are 10 a.m. to 9 o'clock.

Beta Night at Two Bit Circus: Heard about the you-test-it evenings at the DTLA games-and-more-games arcade? Then you know that you'll be asked to try out fresh experiences, and you won't have to pay to do so (but, yes, your feedback will be welcome). Now Two Bit Circus is headed into a special Beta Night, one involving multi-player games. Ready to have some good times with your buddies in a group of 2 to 8 people? Show up on Tuesday night, July 30 and become a tester. It is free, which is cool, and AR, VR, and cabinet arcade games will be featured, as well as a demo from Enklu, which is behind the Unreal Garden in San Francisco.
