A Sierra Madre school and over 50,000 people in Southern California were without power Friday morning as a huge storm dumping as much as 2.7 inches of rain per hour swept through.
Sierra Madre Elementary School won't hold classes Friday after power was cut from the massive overnight storm, the Pasadena Unified School District said. Parents were notified by text message.
At one point 44,000 customers Southern California Edison were without power throughout the Southland, 26,000 of them in Los Angeles County.
Those numbers was halved by noon, when 21,518 people remained without power -- about 14,000 in LA County.
Torrance, Santa Clarita and Santa Monica, were among the areas affected. A full, updated list of outages is available at the utility's website.
Crews were working to restore power, SoCal Edison said.
Nine thousand customers from the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power, which provides power for residents of the city of LA, had lost power.
