Residents Escape Burning Apartment From Second-Floor Window

Three people were injured when they jumped from the window after the fire began in a lower unit

A fire that began in a lower-level apartment spread to the attic and burned two upstairs residences late Tuesday in Rowland Heights, forcing at least three residents to escape out of a second-floor window.

Seven people in were injured in the blaze, which started at around 11:30 p.m at the 1700 block of Otterbein Avenue. The fire was extinguished by firefighters at about midnight after three units burned.

Three people -- identified as a woman in her late-40s, another in her early 20s and a man in his 20s -- suffered injuries when they jumped to the ground from a second-floor window. A 9-year-old girl escaped with family members from a ground-floor unit. They suffered minor burns and smoke inhalation.

Details regarding the victims' conditions were not immediately available.

The Red Cross has been called out to help those displaced by the fire, which investigators said was accidental, possibly electrical.
