A person claiming to be a relative has come forward to claim urns containing the remains of three family members.
Someone dropped off the containers at an El Monte church on Tuesday, prompting police to search for family members.
An El Monte Police Department spokesman confirmed the relative had come forward, but would not give anymore details.
The remains of Erna, Rodney and Brian Muldrow, were dropped off before noon at the Nativity Church, at 3743 Tyler Avenue, in El Monte, police said. The three were father, mother and son, and they were cremated seven years ago. Their ages were not immediately known.
Someone abandoned the sealed urns on church property. Church staff found the urns and later received a call from someone who claimed to have found the urns in a storage container.
The container had been purchased from an auction. The caller provided no other information.
Investigators learned the identities of the dead family members and determined they had been cremated by the Heritage Crematory and the Pomona Cemetery Association.

"The El Monte Police Department is seeking the public’s assistance with locating anyone related to the deceased," police said. "We would like to reunite the remains of the deceased with their next of kin."
